For walls under direct or side lighting (spots, track or wall lights), KyivReno additionally lays fibreglass mesh under the finish filler — this makes it possible to achieve Q4 "under the lamp" quality, where the smallest waves and scratches do not show up under side lighting. This level of preparation is necessary for matte and glossy paints, where defects are especially visible.
How painting work is carried out: from substrate assessment to handover
After a free site visit by the foreman, the client receives an estimate with a fixed price and scope of work in square metres (walls, ceilings, door and window openings) within 2-3 days. Stages of work: assessment of plaster and filler quality, as-built measurements, substrate preparation — cleaning, priming, joint reinforcement, filling with starter and finish layers with intermediate sanding (3-5 days), additional fibreglass mesh for walls to be painted (if required), paint tinting on a spectrophotometer, application of 2-3 coats of paint or wallpapering with vertical pattern matching, decorative coatings — Venetian plaster, travertino or microcement — according to a separate technological chart.
The KyivReno site supervisor checks the quality of each coat under side lighting and records the result with a photo report. Paint is tinted in batches with a buffer reserve for guaranteed shade consistency between rooms and for future touch-ups — this removes the typical risk of tone mismatches at joints.

KyivReno carries out painting work in accordance with ДБН В.2.6-22:2001 and ДБН В.2.6-220:2017 (finishing works), ДСТУ Б В.2.7-239:2010 for water-dispersion paints, and surface quality — according to the Knauf Q1-Q4 classification (aligned with Ukrainian building codes), where Q4 is the "under the lamp" level for gloss and directional lighting.

"Under the lamp" is Q4 by the Knauf classification: a level of surface preparation at which the smallest waves and scratches do not show up under side or directional lighting (spots, track, wall lamps). It is needed for matte and glossy paints in the living room, hallway and near large windows — where defects would otherwise catch the eye.
How many layers of filler are needed for painting?
KyivReno applies two layers — starter and finish — with intermediate sanding and priming; for Q4 "under the lamp" fibreglass mesh is added under the finish filler. Paper tape reinforcement is mandatory at drywall joints. Fewer layers lead to visible chips and the substrate texture showing through.
Which paint to choose for the kitchen and hallway?
For kitchens and hallways KyivReno recommends washable latex paint of durability class 1-2 per ISO 11998 / EN 13300 — it withstands wet cleaning and does not wear off on corners. Brands in Kyiv retail: Caparol, Tikkurila, Dulux. For ceilings we take water-dispersion paint in matte, to hide unevenness and reduce reflections from the ceilings.
How to avoid tone mismatches when tinting?
KyivReno tints paint on a spectrophotometer at the brand's official centre with a mandatory buffer reserve per room. This makes it possible to keep an accurate shade match between walls, additional coats and future touch-ups — manual tinting "by eye" by private contractors produces a mismatch that becomes noticeable after drying.
