Full Renovation of a 50 m² Apartment in Ridny Residential Complex

Full renovation of a 50 m² apartment in Ridny Residential Complex in Hatne, Kyiv Oblast — from a bare concrete shell to a finished turnkey home. Ridny Residential Complex is located in the village of Hatne, Kyivo-Sviatoshynsky District, Kyiv Oblast, at 2/2 Pokrovska Street — developer Samsonovych Ivan Andriiovych. The apartment was handed over in rough-finish condition: bare concrete ceiling with slab joints, walls with coarse plaster, corrugated electrical conduits routed through chases, and only chalk layout markings on the floor. Work covered the kitchen-living room, combined bathroom, and entryway; no replanning was carried out, but the space was designed as an open studio with clear zoning. Demolition began with a full strip of walls and ceiling, after which a cement floor screed was poured with underfloor heating pipes laid along the walls. Machine plaster was applied to the walls, then an electrical panel was installed and new wiring runs were laid for the track lighting system. In the bathroom, waterproofing was applied, a rough screed was poured with a floor-level shift and precise positioning of drainage outlets per the design layout. Next came tiling: the bathroom was fully clad in large-format travertine-look tiles (≥60×60 cm) on walls and floor; the shower zone is separated by a glass enclosure on a black aluminium profile with a linear drain in the floor, and a wall-hung toilet with concealed cistern was installed. In the kitchen, the floor was covered with light laminate or LVT planks; the kitchen unit was assembled with MDF facades in matte green for the upper cabinets and oak-effect film for the lower modules; the splashback is ceramic concrete-look tile with LED strip lighting under the upper cabinets. A standout feature: the entryway houses a built-in wardrobe with white matte MDF facades concealing the backup power system — a LiFePO4 MUST battery, inverter, and electrical panel with circuit breakers. All equipment is fully hidden behind drop-down doors with unobstructed service access. In the bathroom, a built-in two-compartment wall cabinet is mounted above the toilet: one section holds an Ariston water heater, the other houses cartridge water filters. The client received a fully finished studio apartment with installed plumbing, assembled furniture, connected backup power, and configured track lighting on a matte stretch ceiling. The KyivReno team delivered this turnkey project with a dedicated personal site manager and a fixed price in the contract — the full scope from bare shell to final clean.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a 'bare shell' condition mean in Ridny Residential Complex, and what had to be done from scratch?

Apartments in Ridny Residential Complex are handed over without any finishing: bare concrete ceilings with slab joints, coarse-plastered walls, and electrical wiring routed through conduits in the chases. On this project we carried out the full cycle — floor screed, machine plaster, electrical panel installation, new wiring runs — and only then moved on to the finishing work.

How did you manage to hide the water heater, filters, and backup power system in a 50 m² apartment?

The engineering equipment was distributed between two built-in cabinets. In the bathroom, a two-section wall cabinet was mounted above the toilet: an Ariston water heater in one compartment, and cartridge water filters in the other. In the entryway, a wardrobe with white matte MDF facades concealed the LiFePO4 MUST battery, inverter, and circuit-breaker panel — all accessible via drop-down doors.

What floor covering was chosen for the kitchen-living room, and why not tiles?

The kitchen-living room was fitted with light laminate or LVT wood-effect planks. This choice provides a warmer texture underfoot in the living area and simplified installation without raising the floor level. The bathroom, where moisture resistance is required, was fully clad in large-format travertine-look porcelain tiles.

How is the shower zone arranged in a compact combined bathroom?

To save space, a shower tray was omitted: the shower zone is enclosed by a glass screen on a black aluminium profile, and drainage is handled by a linear floor drain. The floor level in the shower was sloped toward the drain at the rough-screed stage — this required precise layout markings before tiling could begin.

How was the lighting designed in a studio apartment with no natural room divisions?

Two tracks with black spotlights were installed on the matte stretch ceiling — one above the kitchen work zone and another above the dining and lounge area. The track system allows flexible light direction and easy fixture additions without further electrical work. An LED strip under the upper kitchen cabinets provides accent lighting for the countertop and splashback.
